Jun Mhoon is an expert speaker and Digital Aggregator who
digitally loads content on legal online digital stores such as iTunes and
Amazon.com. He used to have his own record label after working at various major
record labels such as Warner Brothers, throughout his career. He explains in the video interview, it is
a great time to enter the entertainment business if we are able to adjust our
focus to be like that of an entrepreneur, because it is less about getting deals
and more about content and product to make money.
Mr. Mhoon points out a few great things:
*Record companies have been forced to evolve because of the advancement
of technology. The music business is less about the physical product and more
about the digital media. The record companies who have not made the shift have
closed down. Record companies have to become marketing media companies.
*Whether we are a student of music or the music business, we
must do the homework and research to understand where things have gone. We need
to know it is not about separating advertising, music, film and television, but
understanding that digital media has lumped them all together. This is now an
entertainment media business.
*It is not just about music. The business is now a
multi-faceted business. We must be well versed about e-commerce and making music
that can sell something else, such as a product in the gaming business.
This article by Marius Van Dyke, supports the point that there is a shift in the music business. It is no longer
best to pursue a record deal. We need to learn how to distribute digitally on
our own. We can then develop an
admirable business track record and sign a deal best fit for us later. Cheers
to the preparation!
