Making an Example

I love learning about people who are making a comeback in the entertainment industry. Today I want to highlight Tyler Perry. I must admit this is not really a comeback, but it is a new project that puts Tyler back on the top of the charts again.

I follow Tyler Perry to learn how he connects to his audience electronically and constantly gets the job done in the entertainment industry. Although my career will focus more in music than he focuses in film, his leadership is still an example. He has strong faith in God and pushes past the negative to get amazing results.

Recently Tyler Perry’s movie Good Deeds  landed in the #2 slot on the movie box office charts on its opening weekend. I watched most of his televised interviews in promoting the film. He was honest in revealing his fear of being vulnerable in this role. See his comments in this clip.

This is a role that is an opposite character than the other roles he normally portrays. I saw the movie Good Deeds on opening weekend and in my opinion he and his cast did a GREAT job! I hope you see it too, if you haven’t already.

I also noticed some of his press interviews posted online. One of the blogs I follow called Urban Daily  posted Tyler Perry’s interview with Fox TV’s Kevin McCarthy. During this interview, Tyler Perry explained why he did not arrange for film critics to review his movie Good Deeds. I loved his answer here.

It is powerful when you can get to a point where you don’t need critic reviews to enhance the sales of your product. I commend Tyler Perry for learning the game and succeeding without the traditional methods in the industry. As I am learning about what it takes to be an effective leader and successful project manager I look up to Tyler Perry even more.

Clearly Tyler Perry is being responsible in project manager duties otherwise we would not witness his success in stage plays, cable TV shows and 14 chart topping films. I am sure that his production team is a major help for his project management duties, but they are under his leadership. I can imagine his step-by-step process in identifying the opportunities from his ideas to the project solutions to the execution of the project, the end result. This man is definitely doing something right.
